WeNou Recognition of Competence for R&D activities

We are proud to share that WeNou was recognized by ANI (National Innovation Agency) as a competent provider for R&D activities and services. This recognition is given to scientific based companies that prove to have the necessary knowledge and resources to perform development activities and to provide R&D services to other institutions.

A recognition of this kind is about capacity rather than about any single result. What is assessed is whether an organization has the people, the equipment and the working practices to carry out development work, and whether it can do that work on behalf of others rather than only for itself. It is, in effect, a statement that a company can be contracted to do research and not only to run a routine test.

Research and development in a testing laboratory is more concrete than the phrase suggests. A new method begins with a question a client cannot currently answer: a species that existing assays confuse, a matrix in which DNA degrades too far to be read, a mixture in which a minor ingredient sits below the level a routine method can see. The work that follows is the selection of a marker region, the design and testing of primers, the assembly of reference material of known composition, and then the unglamorous part, measuring specificity, sensitivity, repeatability and the point at which the method stops working.

That last measurement is what separates a method from a claim. A result is only as good as the boundaries reported with it, and a laboratory that has characterized its own limits can say what a negative result means as precisely as it says what a positive one means.

In practice this is how the custom projects on our services list are run. A client describes a problem their current testing does not solve, we define an approach and the material it has to be validated against, and the outcome is a documented method with its performance stated. Anyone with a question of that kind is welcome to write to us at [email protected].
